Winter Lightscape

Winter Lightscape by Adam Aaronson is a dramatic and unusual vessel

Adam has been developing the “Lightscape” series of work for more than twenty years. These simple forms use complex colouring techniques to create the effect of sweeping brushstrokes, influenced to some extent by colour field painting.

“I often work on an idea for a while, producing a body of work, and then I leave that subject. Sometimes I will return to it a few months later. Sometimes it may be some years before I go back to it. I feel that the current body of “Lightscapes” are the best that I have created so far”.

The simple contrasts of colour are technically complex to achieve. “As with most of my work, there are a several built in random elements, which mean that it is impossible to recreate one of these truly unique vessels”

In some ways the “Lightscapes” are quite minimal, particularly when you compare them to some of Adam’s other work. Adam only uses four or five colours in each piece. However, he has developed an unusual overlay method for the “Lightscapes”. This results in the varied, dynamic and rich colour tones that you can see in images of the details.

Adam’s inspiration for the “Lightscape” series comes from sunsets and sunrises. He is always fascinated by the dramatic contrasts of light and tone at the beginning and the end of the day.
